When you held my hand
your fingers felt limp and cold
like a corpse reaching out from its coffin.
When you called me dear
your voice sounded thin and hollow
distant and indistinct
like a shadow calling out from beyond the grave.
When you finally left me
you ruminated about the weather
record-breaking temperatures
hot autumn days
last-minute gardening
in that empty deadpan tone
and I knew I would never see you again.
Lying awake
in the dark recesses of the night,
I ponder these momentous events and wonder:
Were you ever really there—
or just a figment of my imagination?

Yes, some people do feel like ghosts when they are so cold, distant, and uninviting. Thank you, Michelle!

Dawn this is such a deeply felt piece. Sounds like the behavior of a partner going through the motions with no sense of real caring. Great writing Dawn. Big hugs and love – Always love to read you here, Joni
